Join us for a tasting of exquisite local foods such as Quince Paste, Apple Cider, and Stone Fruit Dipping Sauce! The Fruit Tree Project harvests fruit from private trees that would otherwise go to waste. The fruit is then distributed among homeowners, volunteers, food banks and community organizations within Victoria. Some of the fruit is processed into products by local businesses such as Sea Cider, Spinnakers Gastro Brewpub, Salt Spring Gelato Delizioso, Winchester Cellars, Feys+Hobbs, and Truffles Group. The proceeds from the sale of these products helps to support the work of the Fruit Tree Project. Many of these fine items will be available for sampling and purchase at the event. Other local food producers will be featured in Plenty.
Join us for a sustainable feast of fashion! Not Just Pretty Modern Clothing will host a fashion show featuring stylish clothing made from organic and sustainable fibres. View clothes that have been made with thoughtfully chosen materials, that are constructed on a small scale by well-paid skilled artisans, and that are intended to be enjoyed for years to come.
Join us for readings from Apples Under the Bed: Recollections and Recipes from BC Writers and Artists! Sally Bun and Hedgerow Press will host readings from this collection of original essays by BC writers and artists. Invited to reflect on how and when they learned to cook, the authors responded in a variety of styles, some comic, some moving, all illuminating. Among the thirty contributors are Pat Martin Bates, Fred Wah,Shushan Egoyan, Bill Gaston, Pauline Holdstock, Catherine Jameson, Don McKay, P.K. Page, Briony Penn, Manish om Prakash, Carole Sabiston and Rachel Wyatt.
Slow Food is an international organization, founded in 1986 in Italy, to counteract the spread of fast food and the frenzy of the fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and disinterest about what we eat. Slow Food protects biodiversity, disseminates taste education and seeks to bring consumers and producers together by promoting alternative distribution channels. Slow Food is about conviviality, about rediscovering the pleasures of the table such as the social aspects of food.
